World first wheel security system on display at CV show
Wheely-Safe will be showcasing its award-winning wheel security and tyre pressure monitoring system at the Commercial Vehicle Show (28 April – 30 April 2020), on the back of winning four major industry titles in 2019, including the Transport Technology of the Year at the National Technology Awards.
The British firm has designed the world’s first in-motion driver alert system for detecting the onset of wheel loss before detachment from commercial vehicles. This means that if a wheel nut starts to loosen, a signal is transmitted to a display unit in the cab, alerting the driver to pull over. When connected via telematics, a firm’s head office or transport team can also be notified instantly.
Due to its location next to the wheel rim and braking mechanism, Wheely-Safe’s onboard heat sensor can also detect brake and hub issues involving low or high temperatures – to protect against the risk of fire. Plus, an inbuilt tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is provided, to help ensure fleets are running on tyres inflated to the optimum pressures – saving fuel and reducing tyre wear.
Steve Jackson, managing director of Wheely-Safe, says: “This is the only system in the world which can detect the onset of wheel loss before detachment on a moving vehicle – plus our advanced TPMS can help reduce fuel and tyre bills.
“We wanted to demonstrate our technology to as many fleets as possible and felt the CV Show would be the perfect opportunity.”
Other awards secured by Wheely-Safe in recent months include winning the Fleet Safety Product (in-vehicle) category at the Brake Fleet Safety Awards 2019, Product Innovation of the Year at the National Tyre Distributors Association Awards 2019 and the Most Innovative Product of the Year at the FTA Logistics Awards 2019.
