Hankook using Amazon Web Services for tyre development work
Hankook Tire says it is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to further its virtual tyre development work. This involves the tyre maker using the AWS cloud platform to store, process, and analyse huge amounts of data such as that gathered from its recently-introduced Virtual Compound Design (VCD) system, which predicts the characteristics of tyre compounds and finds an optimal combination through artificial intelligence analysis.
According to Hankook Tire, working with the AWS cloud platform will enable it to incorporate more digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data. “As we continue to drive our technological strategy, collaborating with AWS will enable Hankook to further strengthen these efforts,” said Soo Il Lee, chief operating officer at Hankook Tire. “The introduction of AWS to our processes underscores Hankook Tire’s commitment to innovation, further bringing technology to the core of our business as a leading global automotive company.”
Through the collaboration with AWS, Hankook will introduce high-tech digital solutions such as the ‘Amazon SageMaker’ machine learning platform, a fully-managed service that provides developer and data scientists with the ability to build, train, and deploy machine learning models quickly. Hankook Tire comments that SageMaker “removes the heavy lifting” from each step of the machine learning process to make it easier to develop high quality models. Via its cooperation with AWS, the company aims to “develop tyres that have the best performance.”
