Pirelli adding classic, scooter tyres to racing range

Pirelli is expanding its 2020 racing range with the Phantom Sportscomp RS, an 18-inch classic motorcycle competition tyre that combines the vintage Phantom Sportscomp pattern with the latest in track tyre technology. The tyre is approved for road use and aimed at riders competing in classic sprint and endurance races. A second product entering the portfolio this year is the Diablo Rosso Scooter SC, a tyre for racing scooters.

Key advantages the Phantom Sportscomp RS offers riders are a quick warm-up and wide range of operating temperatures, qualities that allow a rider to take to the track without tyre warmers. Pirelli adds that the tyre offers “great consistency” during leans thanks to its dual-radius profile, which as been optimised for use on older chassis; once on the racing line at full lean, the large footprint area “communicates control to the front and grip to the rear tyre.”

The tyre is designed with a range of riding conditions in mind, including intermediate wet conditions: the improved mixing processes support a high and uniform extra-fine carbon black content and guarantee constant peak performance even over several sessions. Pirelli says this compound’s high ‘imprintability’, in combination with a draining tread pattern, allows good grip and drainage even on wet asphalt.

The Phantom Sportscomp RS will be available this year in the sizes 110/80 R 18 M/C 85V TL front, and 130/70 R 18 M/C 63V TL and 150/70 R 18 M/C 70V TL rear.

Bringing the Pirelli racing experience to the scooter world

Diablo Rosso Scooter SC

The second product for 2020 is a tyre that Pirelli says “brings the full Pirelli racing experience to the scooter world.” The Diablo Rosso Scooter SC features a tread design derived from the Diablo Rosso Scooter, and this is combined with new profiles and compounds to create a street-legal tyre optimised for track applications.

A primary benefit of the Diablo Rosso Scooter SC is the high grip provided by its high-content carbon black compound. This lends itself to rapid warm-up times. Pirelli adds that the tyre is suitable for use in all classes of scooter competitions.

The Diablo Rosso Scooter SC is available in the front wheel size 100/90 – 12 M/C 64P TL and rear wheel size 120/80 – 12 M/C 55P TL.
