Kumho lands first OE approval with Audi
Audi Q5 models will now wear Kumho tyres in some markets
We won’t see this combination of vehicle and tyre in the UK or Europe, but it is nevertheless a red-letter occurrence for Kumho Tire. For the first time ever, Kumho tyres are being fitted as original equipment on an Audi model.
The Audi plant in San José, Mexico has produced the second-generation Audi Q5 since the end of 2016, and it is now fitting vehicles destined for some markets with the Kumho Crugen Premium KL33 in size 235/55 R19 101H.
“We’re pleased that the Audi Q5 will roll off the production line on our tyres in future,” comments Insoo Kim, the senior vice president of Kumho Tire responsible for original equipment tyre sales. “We’ve supplied numerous premium manufacturers for years now and are very proud to now become an Audi original equipment partner for the first time.”
According to Kim, Kumho particularly focused upon Audi’s requirements pertaining to durability and noise, as well as performance in the wet and dry, when developing this original equipment version of the Crugen Premium KL33.
