Street-legal aftermarket braided carbon fibre rims coming in 2020
Good news for motorists who long for a set of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) rims but whose budgets don’t stretch to a Porsche 911 Turbo S. As of next year, thyssenkrupp Carbon Components will begin offering carbon wheels for aftermarket customers. It previewed the upcoming range at last month’s Essen Motor Show.
All CFRP wheels from thyssenkrupp Carbon Components are manufactured on a fully automatic production line at the firm’s plant in Kesselsdorf, Germany. The production process utilises a unique braiding technology on the world’s largest radial braiding machine, thus meeting the highest quality standards in regards to performance and aesthetics. The range is TÜV-homologated and will be available to order directly from the company’s online shop.
According to information published by thyssenkrupp Carbon Components, initial sizes on offer include 9.0J x 20-inch and 10.5J x 20-inch. It adds that wheels for various Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Mercedes, Nissan, Tesla and Volkswagen models are “coming soon”.
The company began producing road-approved carbon wheels for motorcycles in 2018. It offers wheels suitable for fitment on a number of motorcycle brands, including BMW, Aprilia, Ducati, Kawasaki and Yamaha.
