ETRMA: Q3 2019 Replacement tyre sales down across the board

Although the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association has reported that its members’ sales declined in all segments during the third quarter of this year, it interprets the figures as indicating “a general stabilisation of the market.”

Passenger car tyre replacement sales continued to decrease in the third quarter, down 2.0 per cent year-on-year to 58.4 million units. Sales for the first nine months of the year are down 3.0 per cent compared with last year, and amounted to 159.4 million units.

Truck tyre replacement sales decreased 2.1 per cent to 3.0 million units in the third quarter of this year. However, the overall results for the first nine months remain positive and, at 8.1 million units, are 2.5 per cent higher compared to January to September in 2018.

Agricultural tyre sales continued their steep decline in the third quarter, dropping 8.4 per cent to 273,000 units and worsening the overall performance for the first nine months of the year, which at 954,000 units is 5.5 per cent below sales in the same period last year.

Motorcycle tyre sales also decreased in the third quarter for the first time this year, dipping 1.7 per cent to 1.8 million units. However, the overall results for the first nine months of the year show a 2.0 improvement over last year and amounted to 8.0 million units.
