Nokian Tyres eliminating 41 jobs at Finnish plant

Upon concluding negotiations with employee representatives today, Nokian Tyres has announced it will make 41 workers at its plant in Nokia, Finland redundant. The tyre maker adds that 11 of these redundancies will take the form of retirement or “other agreed arrangements”. It is also still evaluating the possibility of relocating employees within the group, a measure that may decrease the total number of job reductions.

In addition, temporary lay-offs will continue at the Nokia tyre plant throughout the remainder of this year and for up to a maximum of 90 days in 2020.

Nokian Tyres’ decision to cut jobs and lay off workers is a consequence of weakening automotive and tyre markets. The company nevertheless intends to continue investing in and further developing its tyre factory in Nokia. “A high-performing factory is vital for the product and process development, which enable Nokian Tyres to keep producing premium tires in Finland and ensure the company’s competitiveness”.
