Nexen set to begin trial production at new Czech tyre plant
Nexen Tire Europe is due to begin trial production at its new facility in Zatec, the Czech Republic. The news marks the virtual completion of the project that started in October 2015.
Production at the greenfield plant awaits permission from local authorities. The facility will produce around 15,000 units a day in its initial phase, with a view to increasing production
capacity up to over 12 million units a year. The company had originally planned to begin its first production phase in 2018, but has been delayed.
Zatec is one of two manufacturing ventures by Nexen outside of South Korea – the other plant being located in Qingdao, China. The facility is situated to meet the growing demand the company is experiencing in the European market, and to provide original equipment tires to global car manufacturers.
In late 2018 Nexen moved its European sales and R&D centres in Germany into a new single site in Kelkheim. According to the company, the move was designed to allow the two business units to work more closely together.
