GRI celebrates factory anniversary by launching 100 new sizes

On 25 January 2019 GRI celebrated the first anniversary of the opening of its specialty tyre manufacturing facility, with the release of over 100 tyre sizes.

Since the opening of the factory, GRI has implemented an increased automation strategy, via the utilization of leading edge and modernistic manufacturing units. This has increased the degree of precision, with enhanced consistency in quality, shorter cycle times, increased efficiency, reduced waste and increased safety. Some of the recently attained machines, that are reportedly the first of their kind to be commissioned in Sri Lanka, are the Marangoni tyre building machine, the tyre endurance tester, a plunger tester, amongst others.

GRI’s factory comprises of approximately 70 per cent of agricultural tyre products and the remaining output consists of pneumatic construction and forklift tyres.

“GRI is now well positioned to cater to the farming needs of the global agriculture industry with a large range of high-quality radials and bias tyres,” said Prabhash Subasinghe, managing director of GRI.

The GRI factory is described as “completely self-sufficient” and is certified by ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 and was recently accredited with the ISO 50001 Energy Management certification. GRI’s commitment to sustainability is evident throughout in its 1.2-Megawatt solar panels, biomass boilers and fully recyclable waste and water management systems.

Looking to the future, GRI will embark on more ambitious plans including the opening of a new mixing plant in the ensuing months, which is expected to result in a significant capacity increase.
