Continental brings Rugby warehousing operations in-house
Continental Tyre Group Ltd has brought the management and running of its Regional Distribution Centre in Rugby in-house, effective immediately.
According to the company, the decision follows a review of the logistics strategy and corresponding service provision. The decision to “in-source” its warehouse operations will be actioned via the newly-formed Continental Group Logistics company. As a result, the direct management of the warehouse operation will now be the sole responsibility of Continental, including the secure employment of the current warehouse operatives, reiterating Continental’s commitment to employment in the local community.
Stewart Jackson, Supply Chain director for Continental Tyre Group Ltd said: “Continental believe that warehouse performance is the most important element in providing a premium level of service to our customers and handling the complexities demanded by the tyre market. The strategic move to manage this in-house puts Continental in the driving seat to provide a market-leading service provision moving forward.”
Transport operations will continue to be outsourced to CEVA Logistic, whilst an investment has been made in a fleet of Continental branded vans to cover small volume next day deliveries, further helping to develop the logistic infrastructure and commitment to a premium service offering.
This change constitutes a significant investment and change to Continental’s business model and will be implemented through 2019 with the aim and commitment to provide customers with leading levels of service.
The Rugby Regional Distribution Centre holds stock for all UK and Ireland Replacement Business Units including passenger, truck and specialty tyres. The distribution centre consists of a 212,000 square foot warehouse operation space, holding up to 350,000 tyres, with additional offices and meeting facilities.
