Prometeon takes part in SmartBus zero emission project
Prometeon Tyre Group has signed a tyre supply agreement with the SmartBUS project which is being developed by the Eco – Hev company, a spin-off of the Politecnico di Milano, active in the development of innovative electro mobility systems for the spread of sustainable mobility. The project involves the installation of an innovative fast charging system using a charging station located at the end of the urban line. This energy storage system, being tested on a bus circulating in the city of La Spezia, is based on the Ultracapacitor system developed by Eco – Hev in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano. The system eliminates the need for batteries on board the vehicle, ensuring a considerable reduction in charging times (from 8 hours to 5 minutes).
The signed agreement provides for the supply of Pirelli MC: 01 tyres, in the 275/70 R 22.5 size, a tyre designed specifically for City Bus, which meets the efficiency requirements of the SmartBUS system. Added to this, are the other technical characteristics of this tyre aimed at reducing rolling resistance, with a consequent reduction of energy consumption and a high level of silence, achieved thanks to the specific design and tread compound.
The testing phase of the SmartBUS project is expected to be completed in November 2018, at which point the results will be made public.
“Prometeon has always been at the side of those who invest in innovative solutions for sustainable mobility, contributing with its own technologies, tyres and experience. We are committed to creating a model of sustainable business growth which is attentive to the environment and the markets in which we operate, offering the best of our solutions,” declared Gregorio Borgo, Chief Operating Officer of Prometeon Tyre Group.
“We are very happy with the collaboration with Prometeon for the SmartBUS project, which is going to make the most efficient Zero Emission and Fast Charging electric buses available on the market today. The new intelligent bus concept, implemented by SmartBUS, is therefore the most suitable to meet the new needs of Mobility and Territory, which provide an increasingly optimized exploitation of energy resources, more comfort for the passenger, a lightening of the bus weight, lowering of recharging costs, depot stop time costs, disposal of batteries costs and, above all, higher safety”, explains Paolo Bernardini, president of Eco-Hev.
