Continental initiates voluntary recall for certain ContiPremiumContact 5 tyres
Continental has announced a voluntary exchange programme for 1,650 size 215/60R16 99H XL ContiPremiumContact 5 tyres. It is unclear whether UK consumers are affected by this voluntary recall – Continental says the tyre was shipped to various markets and names Germany, Austria, Finland, the Netherlands, Romania, Australia and New Zealand as countries where these tyres were sold, however other markets may have also received them.
The voluntary exchange was initiated in response to an issue with the tyres’ rubber compound that may cause part of the tread to separate over time and potentially affect vehicle handling. Continental is not aware of any accidents or damage occurring as a result of this problem to-date.
The following Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 size 215/60 R 16 99 H XL tyres are affected: DOT serial number DOT 6G5M D85Y 3317; DOT 6G5M D85Y 3417; DOT 6G5M D85Y 3517 and DOT 6G5M D85Y 3617. The tyres were manufactured in Continental’s Timisoara plant in Romania between weeks 33 and 36 of 2017.
Affected tyres will be replaced free of charge. Continental stresses that no other tyre sizes, product lines or dates of manufacture are affected.
