Continental using Tour de France sponsorship to promote safety message
When stage one of the Tour de France begins in Noirmoutier, northwest France, on 7 July, Continental will launch into its first year as a sponsor of the world-famous cycle race. Through its sponsorship of the Tour de France, Continental not only aims to draw attention to its bicycle tyre range; it also hopes the exposure gained will aid its ‘Vision Zero’ push towards a world without road fatalities and accidents.
In the context of Vision Zero, the tyre maker will promote the message of mutual respect between drivers and cyclists and encourage both to observe a distance of at least 1.5 metres when on the road.
Seven of the 22 World Tour teams competing in this year’s event will also ride on Continental’s Competition Pro LTD tyres, while official Tour de France support vehicles for the race director, medical staff, timekeeper and service will be equipped with Continental PremiumContact 6 tyres.
