Michelin previews Acorus in Detroit
Michelin previewed the Maxion Flexible Wheel with its Acorus technology for the first time in North America at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit (13 – 29 January).
According to the company, the technology was shown to select manufacturers and is limited to 19-inch and larger sizes. Acorus technology is designed to eliminate damage from potholes and road debris to tyres and rims on high performance or luxury passenger vehicles. The patented technology was developed in collaboration with wheel manufacturer Maxion Wheels.
Michelin said its research shows that the flexible wheel assembly helps to prevent pinch shocks on tires and wheel damage.
The assembly incorporates two flexible rubber flanges mounted on a special wheel body to create a flexible wheel assembly that absorbs shocks and impacts that create expensive risks for low-profile tyres. The design is compatible with all passenger tyres on the market.
