Triangle Tyre Europe and Laserta have signed an agreement for the distribution of the brand in the Russian market. UK car manufacturing fell in September, with year-on-year output declining -4.1 per cent, according to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). 6,500 fewer cars rolled off production lines than in the same month last year, with a total output of 153,224.

A new chief executive officer has been appointed at Pirelli tyres Romania. Wolfgang Meier has taken on this role, replacing Giuliano Menassi, who become R&D senior vice-president within the Pirelli Group. Meier retains his role of head of human resources for Pirelli’s business in Germany.
Michael Schwöbel, who as ‘Geschäftsführer Zentrale Bereiche’ holds responsibility for the key business areas of finance, law, logistics, purchasing, IT and public relations within Pirelli’s operation in Germany, will part ways with the tyre maker on 31 October 2017. In a statement, Pirelli has thanked Schwöbel for the contribution made during a 34-career with the tyre maker, including management positions at Pirelli Deutschland GmbH since 2000.
The drive for efficiency and quality in tyre manufacture has elevated the importance of tracking a tyre through the production process and sparked demand for a new kind of identifier capable of surviving the rigors of the production process intact. Labelling solutions specialist Avery Dennison has announced the release of a new label engineered with this in mind.

Giti Tire has added sizes to its wide base tyre range for the growing volume transport segment. The company has added size 445/45R19.5 alongside the 435/50R19.5 in its Giti GTL925 pattern. The lower diameter of the new size gives high cube trailer fleets the opportunity to maximise the inside loading volume of up to three meters height, while still respecting the total vehicle height of four meters allowed across Europe.
The Cooper Zeon CS8 has been chosen as an original equipment tyre for the new T-Roc compact SUV in European markets, and in doing so has given Cooper Tire & Rubber its first-ever original equipment approval with Volkswagen. The VW T-Roc, which is produced at Volkswagen’s Autoeuropa factory in Palmela, Portugal, will receive the Zeon CS8 in size 205/60R16 92V.
Following the news that Tyre Bay Direct entered administration on 25 September, the company has announced that it is now part of Atlas Equipment. According to the company website, “After a short break in operations, Tyre Bay Direct is now fully operational and capable of meeting the usual needs of customers.”
The formerly Fontijne Grotnes-owned wheel production lines have started producing under the Fontijne Holland name. When the Vlaardingen-based firm Fontijne Grotnes declared bankruptcy late last year, it became apparent that certain parts of the company were generating widespread interest. Since the business unit for wheel production lines had always been successful and profitable, the fresh start for that business unit has now been confirmed.
When vehicle manufacturers talk about the future, the talk centres more and more on electric vehicles, and the timetable for their introduction is increasingly specific. During the IAA show in Germany a couple of months back, several major car makers announced or reiterated plans to bring all-electric models to market by 2020. This means that OEMs, including tyre makers, are already busy with preparations.
