Pro-Align and TEXA are collaborating to deliver a series of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) calibration technical seminar. The first free seminar addresses one of the biggest challenges currently faced by workshops, namely the resetting and calibration of ADAS, giving workshops the knowledge needed to service the growing suite of on-board safety systems. Following a year off in 2017, Pirelli will return to the World Rally Championship from next year. The tyre maker has already homologated new products for the latest generation of WRC car as well as the feeder WRC2 category. In addition, from next year Pirelli also commences exclusive tyre supply for the Junior World Rally Championship, a series dedicated to drivers born later than 1 January 1989 and contested using identical R2-class Ford Fiestas. The winner will become the owner of a brand-new Fiesta R5 together with a tyre, fuel and free rally entries package towards the 2019 WRC2 season.

Having worked for Mai Italia SrL for over 40 years, Renato Mai is retiring as president and CEO of the company. He will assume the post of honorary president; a position created by the shareholders that carries no management duties. Renato Mai will be succeeded as managing director and CEO by Federico Fiorini, who has over 15 years’ experience in the field of speciality tyres.
At its inaugural Asia Supplier Award ceremony on 21 November, car accessory sourcing, development and supply specialist MGTS honoured Giti Tire Corporation as ‘Best Spare Parts & Tires Supplier’ and also named it recipient of its ‘Best Corporate Social Responsibility’ accolade. By taking home two of the nine awards given out at the ceremony, Giti Tire notes that it finished “above many other leading global tyre and automotive supply manufacturers.”
Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s presence in China’s replacement tyre market has gained a significant boost by the forging of a strategic partnership with e-commerce giant JD.com. Signed 1 December, the agreement with China’s largest e-commerce platform (by revenue) will place selected Goodyear products on a Goodyear-branded JD.com channel and also see the company’s tyre and automotive services centres, which currently operate in ten cities in China, collaborate with the JD.com automotive platform. Goodyear states that this partnership will result in “seamless omni-channel experiences.”
On 1 January 2018, a new organisational structure will take effect at Nokian Tyres. While the company’s business unit structure – Passenger Car Tyres, Nokian Heavy Tyres and Vianor – will remain unchanged and its external reporting model will continue to include business units and geographical areas, from the start of next year the Passenger Car Tyres business unit will be divided into three new business areas. A new unit, named Products and Technologies, is also being established.
A second Porsche original equipment deal for Nexen Tire: Following last year’s approval of the Nexen N’Fera RU1 for factory fitment on the Cayenne, the tyre has now been given the green light for Porsche’s compact luxury SUV, the Macan. The N’Fera RU1 will be supplied for the Macan in sizes 235/55R19 101Y and 255/50R19 103Y.

Workshop equipment distributor Pro-Align’s support for the Skills Show has stretched to half a decade, including the last five years in succession. Trainee vehicle technicians competing in this year’s show were able to gain valuable hands-on experience using some of the most advanced wheel alignment and diagnostic wheel balance systems currently on the market, thanks to this ongoing support. Held over three days at the NEC, Birmingham, competitors took part in a diverse range of practical skills and knowledge tests such as beauty therapy, bricklaying, landscaping, and games design.
