Two Goodyear tyre models OE on new Audi A8

Deliveries of the fourth-generation Audi A8 are expected to begin in January, and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 and UltraGrip Performance Gen-1 tyres have been approved as original equipment fitments for the new saloon. The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 summer tyre will be available in sizes 255/45R19 104Y XL – in both standard and Ultra-Low Rolling Resistance versions (to answer Audi’s low fuel consumption requirements) – as well as size 265/40R20 104Y XL. The UltraGrip Performance Gen-1 winter tyre will be available in sizes 235/55R18 104H XL and 265/40R20 104V XL. All Goodyear fitments will be marked AO (and AO1, for low rolling resistance tyres) to denote Audi’s approval of these tyres as original equipment for its vehicles.

To reduce in-vehicle noise, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 designs homologated for the A8 incorporate Goodyear’s SoundComfort technology, an open-cell polyurethane foam element applied to the inner surface of the tyre that works directly to reduce the tyre air cavity resonance produced by the air vibration, which is one of the main sources of tyre noise. Based upon internal tests performed using a previous-generation Audi A8 fitted with size 245/40R18 tyres, Goodyear claims its SoundComfort technology can help make a vehicle’s cabin up to 50 per cent quieter than a regular tyre can, without compromising on driving performance.

“Being chosen by Audi to produce Original Equipment for its groundbreaking new A8 top-class luxury saloon is a great reward for our Goodyear engineers,” states Nick Harley, Goodyear’s managing director OE Consumer EMEA. “They have delivered tailor-made tyres to address the needs of demanding Audi A8 drivers, looking for a unique and dynamic driving experience with excellent handling, comfort and performance in all road conditions.”
