“Filling in potholes is no substitute for more dynamic infrastructure” – LeasePlan MD
New figures from the DFT showed that over 100 cyclists are injured in accidents caused by crumbling roads, because councils are failing to fix potholes as they are not deep enough.
Commenting on this situation, Matt Dyer, LeasePlan UK’s managing director, says: “The number of potholes on British roads are increasing and simply filling them in is no substitute for modernising Britain’s road network. Alarmingly, our research reveals that over a third (37 per cent) of drivers pinpoint potholes as one of the main reasons they don’t enjoy driving. Part of the reason why there are so many potholes in the first place, is because the roads are aged and decrepit – the Government needs to provide better connected and more dynamic infrastructure that suits the needs of all road users.”
