Bush Tyres celebrates 70 years of business
Grouptyre founding member Bush Tyres is celebrating 70 years in business this year. The family-owned company has earned a reputation as Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire’s leading independent tyre specialist, in both retail and wholesale, with its place within Grouptyre helping to form a nationally successful business.
Bush’s story began when Benjamin Arthur Bush, known locally as Benny, ran a cycle shop in New Bolingbroke near Boston, Lincolnshire. Shortly before World War II, Bush responded to growing public demand by adding the supply of pneumatic car tyres to his established bicycle tyre business. Following the war BA Bush became a recognised tyre dealer and by 1947 were fitting tyres to vehicles of all types. In 1962 the company re-located to its present head office site in the old Station Yard, Horncastle.
Under the direction of Benny’s son Ivor, and now his grandson Nigel, the company has grown substantially with stores opening in Skegness, Stickney, Louth and the first of the ‘new look’ branches in Sleaford. Spilsby replaced Stickney in 1986, with Sleaford providing the blueprint for further expansion programmes at Boston, Beverley and Grimsby. The growth continued across the region with depots opening in Hull, Long Sutton, Scunthorpe and Kings Lynn, Hull, Bourne, and the state of the art facility at Spalding as well as Spalding Commercial.
More recently Bush has added Goole, Serviceline Hull and the advanced warehouse hub in Barton, which aimed to cement its position as one of most advanced independent wholesalers in the UK. Bush Tyres recently developed a second site at Grimsby, and the truck distribution hub, Wolds Commercial. Alongside this continual growth and development, the company bought the majority share of Endyke tyres – a successful distribution and retail customer in the Hull Area.
In 2010, Bush Tyres joined with fellow Grouptyre members Elite Garage and Tanvic Group to form Grouptyre Wholesale (GTW), a pioneering a distribution company that aims to deliver improved tyre stocks and service to tyre retailers across through the south. The success of this business has led to an expansion from its Aylesbury site to a second site in Brentwood in recent years to further enhance its service offering.
The company has custom-built independent facilities in Grimsby, Spalding, Scunthorpe and King’s Lynn, winning retail awards and accreditations. The company aims to meet the requirements of customers as diverse as private motorists and farmers with a wide range of quality products, available at the right prices.
