Fuchs establishes its green credentials

UK lubricant manufacturer Fuchs lubricants has been recognised for its excellence in environmental management and performance by being awarded the updated ISO 14001:2015 by the British Standards Institution.

Fuchs was first certified to the accreditation in 2006, and has maintained its strong performance to ensure it meets upgraded criteria laid out in 2015.
To achieve the new accreditation, Fuchs had to conform to the international standard, as well as legal and other requirements, and demonstrate continual improvement in environmental, sustainability and operational performance.

Simeon Preston, compliance manager at Fuchs Lubricants, said: “This is a very significant development for us and we are delighted to have achieved the new updated level in the ISO 14001 category. “Over the last 11 years, we have continued to focus heavily on our environmental management, risk analysis and controls to mitigate risks to the business and environment, and it seems we are one of the first lubricant companies in the UK to be recognised in this way.

“One of the key aspects of this is to ensure our environmental policy and the organisation’s strategic direction are aligned, and the new Annext SL structure facilitates this,” he adds. “We have a proud history of creating and manufacturing innovative products which are environmentally responsible and this certification is testament to that.

“We are constantly reviewing our aspects and impacts and ensuring controls are implemented and maintained and that our teams are competent. The environmental management system ensures we are manufacturing and supplying products with the Fuchs sustainability principles at the core of our work.”

In addition to this accreditation, Fuchs has created a Lube Cube which is made from 98 per cent recyclable materials, and is the only lubricant manufacturer of the Bio-Based and Biodegradable Industries Association. The company has also made a £700,000 investment in more than 2,000 solar panels which is generating over 440,000 kWh of clean renewable energy per year at its UK base in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.

With over 100 years of experience, Fuchs develops and manufactures a diverse range of lubricants at its Stoke-on-Trent site, including Titan engine oils, gear oils, hydraulic oils, Ecocool metalworking fluids and specialist pharmaceutical lubricants.
