DEKRA expands in Portugal through MasterTest acquisition
The three testing stations run by DEKRA in Portugal have now been joined by a further 11 following the acquisition of Portuguese testing organisation MasterTest. DEKRA has been in the market for vehicle inspections in Portugal since 2016 and plans to open three further stations there by the end of the year.
MasterTest employs around 110 people and last generated annual overall revenues of more than 9 million euros. As Portugal’s fourth largest testing organisation, it carries out more than 300,000 vehicle inspections every year. With a total of 26 million vehicle inspections per year, DEKRA is the world market leader.
“On entering the Portuguese market last year, we set the goal of being one of the three largest providers of periodic vehicle inspections in the country by 2020. In addition to our planned organic growth, the acquisition of MasterTest brings us a large step closer to this goal,” said Clemens Klinke, a member of the DEKRA SE Management Board and in charge of the Automotive business unit.
In 2014, Portugal opened the market and issued new licenses for vehicle inspection stations. DEKRA has already been active in Portugal for more than 25 years, providing services outside vehicle testing activities, particularly in the field of used car management.
