Michelin unveils European Distribution Centre in Stoke-on-Trent
Michelin Tyre has unveiled a new 53,500 square metre European Distribution Centre (EDC) at its UK headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent. The EDC came following £10 million of investment and has helped create 100 logistics and customer service jobs over the last 12 months.
In addition, work has begun on an additional 12,000 square metre warehouse for Michelin’s truck retread factory, also on Campbell Road. This new project is due to be completed by the end of this year.
Over the last eight years, Michelin has also invested more than £25 million in its factory, making it one of the most modern tyre retreading plants in the world.
Headcount across the industrial and logistics part of the site is said to have increased 25 per cent in the last 18 months. Roughly 900 people are now employed by Michelin in Stoke-on-Trent.
John Young, managing director of Michelin Tyre, said: “The transformation of production and logistics operations here shows how committed we are to North Staffordshire and how we feel about Stoke-on-Trent as a place to do business.
“The investment in the factory means we can compete in an extremely tough market, while the EDC will help us to take our customer service to the next level. When the new factory warehouse comes online it will lay the foundations for further growth, so we see our future in Stoke-on-Trent as very bright.
“The event celebrating the opening of the EDC was really a way for us to say a huge ‘thank you’ to our employees, to stakeholders who have backed us with funding and support, and to the Michelin Group for sharing our faith in Michelin Stoke.”
