Membat shares results of further TÜV SÜD tests
Following on from the TÜV SÜD testing carried out for Membat last year, the tyre brand commissioned the testing and certification specialist to once again compare Membat tyres against rival products. This time the Membat Passion was tested in size 205/55 R16 91 V against B segment brand products manufactured by Michelin and Continental (Membat hasn’t disclosed the specific brand or product family). Membat comments that “the results speak for themselves.”
A wet braking test was conducted in which the test vehicle, a VW Golf VII, decelerated from 80km/h to 20km/h. Of the four tested tyres, the Membat Passion slowed to 20km/h in the shortest distance, taking 27 metres to do so. The Continental B brand tyre took a whisker longer, while the two tested Michelin B brand tyres respectively took 27.7 metres and 32.2 metres to reach 20km/h.
The Membat tyre didn’t achieve outright victory in the aquaplaning test, and was instead required to settle for second place. The test was conducted by measuring the speed at which aquaplaning occurs when driving in a straight line through a 1-centimetre layer of water. The Membat Passion reached 82km/h before any effect was felt; the best score was achieved by one of the Michelin B brand tyres, which got to 84.5km/h before any aquaplaning was noticeable.
Membat reports a close third place for the Passion in the lateral wet grip test. This discipline involved measuring lap times on a wet 42 metre radius circular track, with faster times gaining a higher score. The Continental B brand tyre achieved the highest speed, followed closely by one of the Michelin B tyres and then the Membat Passion. The second Michelin B brand tyre could only deliver a much slower lap time. Membat reports that its tyre scored “101 per cent compared with the 100 per cent of the average of the competitors.”
Testing was carried out by TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH in April and May 2017 at several sites in Germany. The report covering these tests is Report-No: 713107898.
