Pirelli coloured tyres debut on Italian police cars
Pirelli’s new coloured edition tyres, which were launched at the Geneva Motor Show, have made their road-going debut with the Italian police force.
Lamborghini has donated a new Huracan to Italy’s police, which like every Lamborghini is equipped with Pirelli tyres as original equipment. However, this is the first road-going example to use the new coloured edition tyres following their Geneva debut – and naturally, the colour that has been chosen is a specially-created police blue to match the Lamborghini’s distinctive police livery.
This latest edition to the Italian police force fleet will be used for time-critical missions, such as transport of organs for donations. With a top speed of close to 200mph, this is probably the fastest police car currently in existence. Coloured edition Pirelli tyres are based on the famous P Zero, which are supplied to the majority of the world’s supercar manufacturers as original equipment.
Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali, who was present at the handover ceremony, commented: “A big thanks to Pirelli for providing special tyres that showcase the best of Italian technology.”
Pirelli and Lamborghini have previously formed part of the police force, with a Gallardo being first supplied to the Italian police in 2005: again with P Zero tyres as original equipment. However, this is the first time that coloured edition tyres have been seen on a police car – or indeed any other car – on the road.
The Pirelli coloured edition is available in four base colours – yellow, red, white and silver – but the option also exists to personalise the tyres in any colour designated. Showcasing this unique capability for bespoke design is the Lamborghini that was handed directly to Italy’s interior minister at a ceremony in Rome earlier in the week.
