ATG’s Constellation truck tyre brand not coming to Europe, for now
Shortly after its acquisition by Yogesh Mahansaria and private equity company Warburg Pincus in 2007, the Alliance Tire Group (ATG) exited the car and truck tyre market and began building up a strong reputation as an off-road tyre specialist. A decade later and the company is revisiting one of these former businesses; this year, the Yokohama Rubber subsidiary is releasing a new brand of truck tyre. ATG is currently restricting availability of its new Constellation range to the US market, however it hasn’t ruled out introducing it into other regions at a later date.
Constellation is making its debut in the US medium radial truck market with thirteen tread patterns – a total of 50 SKUs – that cover drive, steer and trailer positions and fill long-haul, regional and mixed service applications. “Constellation truck tyres offer world-class quality and outstanding performance for the price,” comments John Hull, national truck tyre sales manager for Alliance Tire Americas. “Quality testing showed casing strengths of 150 per cent of DOT standard and endurances at nearly three times the DOT standard. Additionally, Constellation truck tyres are warrantied for five-year casing life or two retreads, whichever comes first. These are highly reliable tyres, and we have designed and priced them to deliver great return on investment to the owner-operator or fleet owner.”
The truck tyre brand is manufactured under an offtake arrangement – ATG reports that Constellation production takes place in a “state-of-the-art factory” in Thailand that is DOT-certified and carries certifications for ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO/TS 16949.
“Basically, we’ve taken the industry’s best farm and OTR selection and added a great new truck brand to it,” Hull continues. “Constellation gives our dealers a new, highly competitive truck line to offer customers who already understand the performance and value of ATG’s core brands, whether it’s Alliance farm tyres, Galaxy tyres for skid steer and construction equipment, or Primex forestry tyres.
“For the dealer, it’s one-stop shopping with a company they trust, the chance to source container-direct or through one of ATG’s five US warehouses, and a margin they can make a living on,” he adds. “For the end user, Constellation delivers excellent performance backed by ATG, great reliability and outstanding value.”
