Goodyear in talks to extend NASCAR contract
NASCAR, the most American of all motorsport championships, has enjoyed input from Goodyear since the 1950s, and Goodyear Tire & Rubber has served as exclusive tyre supplier for NASCAR’s top three series since 1997. The tyre maker’s current contract with NASCAR runs until the end of 2017, and Motorsport.com reports it is now in negotiations with NASCAR regarding its involvement in seasons beyond this date.
“I can tell you there have been several meetings, several conversations about moving forward,” Greg Stucker, director of racing tyre sales and marketing at Goodyear, told Motorsport.com. “To my knowledge, there are no major hurdles.” Stucker added that details pertaining to television rights and social media were the biggest things that need to be worked through before a new contract is arranged, and he has no knowledge of any other tyre maker making a rival offer for 2018 and later.
