Micheldever buys Bell Silencer Services
Micheldever Tyre Services has bought Bell Silencer Services, founded in Swindon in 1977 by engineer Ron Bell, for an undisclosed fee. The sale reportedly took four months to complete.
The acquisition is the latest in a line of purchases that has seen Micheldever, which currently sells around 6 million tyres a year (roughly 20 per cent of the UK tyre market), buy 27 fast fit centres in the last nine months. Tyres & Accessories latest retail report shows that Micheldever and its Protyre retail chain is not only the fifth largest in the country, but also the fastest growing. The latest acquisition confirms this.
Ron Bell’s wife Christine commented: “When my husband started considering retirement, it was always his aspiration to sell it to Micheldever, so this sale represents the conclusion of a family legacy for us. We are now looking forward to seeing the company grow as part a bigger national group.”
The independent tyre and exhaust filter company Bell Silencer Services became known for its craftsmanship, and fitted equipment for sport cars such as those made by Ferrari and Aston Martin, as well as more ‘everyday’ vehicles.
Jessica Painter, a partner at Watersheds, said: “The negotiations were concluded swiftly and efficiently and all parties involved were delighted with the outcome. The name of the company will be retained and the sale will also see more direct resources being invested into growing the business, cementing its future in high-quality service and high-performance product range.”
