FIA confirms later F1 British grand prix date
The FIA has released a revised schedule for the 2016 Formula One season, including a date for the British grand prix two weeks later than originally slated. The new date for the race will be 10 July, revised from 26 June. The rescheduling also scotches rumours of the event’s demise – at least for next year. The grand prix’s venue, Silverstone, owned by the British Racing Drivers’ Club, has a special agreement for paying the hosting fee, around £16m with a five per cent annual increase, in arrears. The circuit is contracted to run the event until 2026, though a get-out clause could have been used in 2016, hence some whispers that it was to be dropped. However the latest news looks, for the time being at least, to have secured another round in the F1 calendar next year.
