Hankook enlarges Ventus S1 evo² range with low rolling resistance sizes, announces Mercedes-Benz fitment
It appears that Hankook Tire has introduced a low rolling resistance version of its flagship Ventus S1 evo² tyre. A statement released following the company’s Frankfurt motor show press conference refers to the addition of “very low rolling resistance versions in several sizes” and states that two of these dimensions have been selected as original equipment tyres for the Mercedes-Benz C350e plug-in hybrid. The C350e will be fitted with this low rolling resistance Ventus S1 evo² in size 225/50 R 17 at the front and 245/45 R 17 on the rear axle.
The lower rolling resistance Ventus S1 evo² is produced at Hankook Tire’s plant in Hungary, and reportedly utilises new mixing technologies and an all new tread compound. “The extension of mixing times at reduced temperatures significantly increases the bonding rate and more targeted cross linking between carbon and rubber molecules for reduced heat generation during driving thus improving handling characteristics while at the same time reducing rolling resistance, tread wear and thermal caused aging,” states the tyre maker, adding that “a new high styrene polymer” also enhances the tyre’s wet braking performance.
“The superior performance of our products documents our potential of being able to supply the market with Hankook top quality also for the technically demanding segment of very eco-friendly yet high performing cars like the Mercedes-Benz C350e plug-in hybrid,” comments Ho-Youl Pae, head of Hankook Tire in Europe. “And we are especially proud of the fact that all the original fitment passenger car tyres for Daimler AG are being manufactured in our European plant.”
Further details regarding the expanded Ventus S1 evo² range and the low rolling resistance version, such as a full list of sizes, have not yet been announced.
