Bernstorff in GP3 Series win at Monza

British driver Emil Bernstorff took a hard-earned win in the Pirelli-supported GP3 Series when it appeared on the Formula One bill at last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

The Arden International driver scored his third GP3 career victory after starting from fifth on the grid and fighting his way up through the order to pass ART Grand Prix and Mercedes junior driver Esteban Ocon on the penultimate lap in the first race.

There was no such luck for compatriot Matthew Parry (Koiranen GP), who had challenged for the lead at one point before finishing fourth on the road but was later excluded for having an underweight car. A clash with Alex Fontana (Status) put Bernstorff out of race two, but he still retains a clear fourth place in the GP3 points.

There was less luck for the Brits in the sister GP2 Series – also supplied by Pirelli – where DAMS driver Alex Lynn lost out on a possible race one win following a clash with Sergey Sirotkin, which earned him a pitlane start for the sprint race on Sunday. Fellow Brit Jordan King (Racing Engineering) collected four points for finishing eighth in the feature race. Lynn remains the leading Brit in the series with sixth place in the standings. Both the GP2 and GP3 series will next race at the Russian GP at Sochi on October 9-11.
