First workers hired for Continental’s ‘high tech’ tyre plant

The plant will feature state-of-the-art equipment, such as this uniformity tester

Continental has begun hiring employees for its HPTC (High Performance Technology Center), the “factory within a factory” built over the past year at its Korbach plant in Germany. Although construction work is not yet complete, the tyre maker expects to fill 24 job vacancies by the end of this year.

“The first workers are already at the facility and have just begun training for their future roles,” shares plant manager Lothar Salokat. “Our new employees will then begin work manufacturing tyres once the first production equipment is installed.”

Further construction work on the high-tech facility will give it capacity to produce 350,000 high performance tyres per annum. Additional workers are currently sought, with 60 new positions expected to become available next year.

The Korbach tyre plant currently produces around 34,000 passenger car, two-wheeler and industrial tyres a day and employs some 3,400 workers.
