First Goodyear retread redundancies expected in October
Following the news of Goodyear’s planned closure of its Wolverhampton mixing and retreading operations, Express & Star journalist, Peter Madeley has quoted “a union spokesman” on Twitter, saying that the closure proposal was “out of the blue”. Reporting from Wolverhampton as the news broke on the morning of 25 June, he tweeted that the “first 50 jobs will go in the retread [department]… in [October], with redundancies “to be spread over [two] years.” Madeley adds that the union spokesman also told him that the “entire site will close in January 2017.”

Madeley also provided an insight into the service provided by workers at the Wolverhampton factory. He quoted one member of staff who had been with the company for 25 years, while another told him “he was the newest member on his section,” having “been there for 10 years.”
One worker told me he was the newest member on his section at the @goodyear_uk plant. He's been there for 10 years.
