ContiTech’s Phoenix Compounding Technology to exhibit at the DKT

Phoenix Compounding Technology, a business unit of ContiTech AG, operates compounding plants at a number of locations worldwide

ContiTech specialist compounder Phoenix Compounding Technology will exhibit its latest developments and showcasing its international locations at Booth 213, Hall 12 at the Deutsche Kautschuk-Tagung 2015 (DKT; German Rubber Conference) in Nuremberg from 29 June to 2 July, 2015. The focal point of its trade showcase is compounds in various delivery forms, which all meet the current requirements of the REACH regulation. More of ContiTech’s technologies will be unveiled during the lecture programme.

Phoenix Compounding Technology will present its comprehensive product range, which also includes compounds in endless strips in widths of 15 to 180 mm for loading extruders and automatic injection moulding machines. It offers calendered sheeting or slabs, produced on a four-roll calender in widths up to 1,400mm and thickness from0.3 mm to max. 10mm, for manufacturing flat products. Silicone compounds are manufactured in a reliable process using a closed mixer and shipped in various forms. Compounds with relatively high Shore hardnesses can also be manufactured as pellets measuring 2-5mm in size. These are increasingly used for continuous filling of extruder systems and can be supplied in big bags, cartons or Poolboxes.

Online database

A comprehensive online database, which will be on display at the booth, allows users to find details of the properties of more than 500 compounds on the internet. These formulas meet the current requirements of the REACH regulation. Due account is taken of sustainability constraints when determining the formulation and the compounding procedure. Certifications to EN ISO 9001, EN ISO 14001 and EN ISO 50001 are also a formal confirmation of this commitment.

Phoenix Compounding Technology is one of the leading specialists in the development and manufacture of rubber compounds. The company, with its approximately 800-strong workforce, manufactures its compounds at its European sites in Hamburg and Waltershausen, Germany and Nyiregyhaza, Hungary. It has also set up further compounding capacity in Changshu, China. A new compounding plant will go into operation there in July 2015, from which external customers in the region will also be supplied. The annual production of all the company’s compounding plants totals more than 150,000 metric tonnes of finished compounds.

ContiTech technologies featured

ContiTech is also actively involved in the DKT conference: Matthias Maisner from Germany’s Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute and co-author Michael Möschen from the ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group will deliver a paper entitled ‘Use of Rubber Conveyor Belt Materials at Navigable Waterway Constructions’ between 16:30 and 17:00 on 29 June in the Paris Room of the NürnbergConvention Center. Conveyor belting material is already successfully being used for dams. Its main feature is its high resistance to vandalism. Another application with conveyor belting, which is helping to provide a lasting seal for concrete joints in locks, is already successfully in operation for the first time in the field.

‘Silanes for Energy Efficient Elastomers’ is the title of the paper by Prof Anke Blume from Evonik Industries and the University of Twente (NL) between 14:30 and 15:00 on 30 June, 2015, also in the Paris Room. The results were obtained in the ENEFEL project funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research, which was coordinated by ContiTech R&D materials experts Dr Wolfram Herrmann and Dr Stefan Sostmann. The findings gained from this will be used in development projects aimed at increasing the sustainability of various ContiTech products.
