Michelin tyres OE on 141MPG Peugeot 208

Michelin Energy Saver + - original equipment on the world’s most fuel-efficient mass-produced car

Late last month a 1.6-litre BlueHDi 100 S&S Peugeot 208 set a new long-distance fuel consumption record at PSA Peugeot Citroën’s test circuit in Belchamp, France. In the 38 hours that the standard production, 5-speed manual Peugeot was on the track it covered a total of 1,337.19 miles (2,152 kilometres) and used just 43 litres (9.45 gallons) of diesel, achieving an average fuel consumption of 141.2 mpg (2.0 l/100km). The tyres on the record-breaking vehicle were the new model’s standard fitment – Michelin’s Energy Saver +.

“Michelin and PSA Peugeot Citroën teams work closely together as part of a pre-defined strategy, whose worth has been proved today with this incredible fuel record for the new Peugeot 208,” commented Mike Bundick, marketing director for Original Michelin Equipment. “Michelin Energy Saver + 15- and 16-inch tyres can therefore make a great contribution to improving the performances of the city car, significantly enhancing the energy efficiency of the vehicle, while optimising safety levels and total mileage. Driving precision and road holding properties also clearly benefit. This record is just one example of the effectiveness of our joint works with Peugeot teams on their entire range, from small city cars to crossovers.”

The Peugeot 208 goes on sale in Europe from June and autumn in the UK. In addition to supplying the new model, Michelin supplies its Energy Saver + and Primacy tyres to the Peugeot 308, 508, 2008, 3008 and 5008.
