Dunlop LMP2 teams aim to bolster World Championship lead at Spa

Dunlop travels to Spa in order to support LMP2 drivers running its 2015 tyres

The second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship will take place at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit, and Dunlop hopes to help the G-Drive Racing team to hold on to first and second places following their first-second finish at Silverstone earlier this month.

Roman Rusinov and Julien Canal won both Silverstone and Spa in 2014, this year being partnered by Sam Bird. The trio will be looking to repeat the feat at Spa.  Among the other Dunlop teams, Extreme Speed Motorsports will be looking to regain points lost at Silverstone following a post-race scrutineering technical infringement. 2014 title contenders KCMG suffered from radiator damage so they too will be looking to make up for lost points. Reigning Le Mans 24 winner Jota Sport makes another guest appearance having appeared on the Spa WEC podium in all of the last three seasons.

Dunlop has nominated the Medium and Medium Plus options for the Spa event.

Mike McGregor, senior engineer, Dunlop, said: “Spa is going to be very interesting for us regardless of the notoriously variable weather. We have seen our slick tyres perform well at Silverstone and it is rare not to see some wet weather at Spa at some point so it would be good to get some competition miles on our new improved wet and intermediate tyres. Jota Sport bolsters our already strong line-up so it should be a very competitive race.”

Dunlop’s 2015 LMP2 tyre range includes soft, medium, medium+, intermediate, and wet versions, with improvements including: more efficient material positions to improve mid-corner grip; increased durability in the harder compound; improved grip in the intermediate tyre, which also has a tread pattern to promote water evacuation; new wet tyre construction to improve grip and driver feedback.

The 6 Hours of Spa starts on 3 May at 14.30 local time.
