Alliance recalls certain 396 tyres
Alliance Tire Group’s Alliance Tire Americas division is recalling certain Alliance 396 agricultural equipment tyres due to a deflation risk. The tyres in question, which are size 445/65 R22.5, were manufactured between 22 April 2013 to 23 November 2014. Some other 600/50 R22.5 products, which were manufactured between 27 May 2013 and 2 November 2014 are also included in the recall.
According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issues relates to the particular tyres’ radial belt construction, with the suggestion that there is the product for belt and tread separation, resulting in rapid air loss. The NHSTA filing quotes Alliance representatives as saying: “We are investigating the matter to determine the root cause and while this investigation is pending as a precautionary measure we are recalling the tyres.”
As part of its recall response Alliance has sent out engineers to the US and Europe to “investigate and determine the root cause of the defect”. In the meantime, in addition to the recall and the sending of engineers, Alliance’s filing suggests that shoulder bulges and significant vibration on the selected products, sizes and manufacturing dates could indicate a problem.
Around 309 tyres are expected to be affected.
