The Gwynedd Shipping Group, which offers a range of haulage services including services to Ireland and specialist domestic steel delivery, runs its fleet of 80 trucks and 600 trailers, seven days a week, double-shifting the vehicles. Spain-based retreader Insa Turbo has named Salvador Pérez Lucena its commercial director. In his new position, Pérez Lucena will be involved with the Insa Turbo brand and other Grupo Soledad companies, including retreader and rubber compound manufacturer MCE Mezclas Caucho and rubber automotive components manufacturer Cauchos Verdú. Insa Turbo says the appointment was made “in order to revitalise the company and achieve new goals of positioning and expansion in the sector, both nationally and internationally.”
As reported yesterday, Michelin has officially opened its new Tweel factory in the US. The plant produces the airless tyre and wheel combination for off-road commercial applications, and at the inauguration the chairman and president of Michelin North America addressed recent speculation regarding the extension of Tweel technology to passenger cars.
Michelin’s Tweel factory has opened in Piedmont, South Carolina, USA, manufacturing airless tyres for commercial applications. From Piedmont, Michelin will boost output of its X Tweel SSL skid-steer tyres and begin production of the new X Tweel Turf as original equipment for John Deere’s Ztrak 900 Series line-up of zero-turn commercial mowers. The 135,000sqft facility is Michelin’s 10th in the state, and 16th in the US. The company said it would invest about $50 million in the new plant.

Market research publisher Bharat books has released a new report on the UK tyre market. Introducing the new product, the company contexualises the research against the backdrop of “anticipated growth in the UK automotive industry and expansion in the overall automotive fleet”, saying these markets are “expected to boost tyre demand in the United Kingdom”. Without giving any further details, the publisher suggest that there are “growing online sales of replacement tyres” and “rising demand for retreaded tyres, especially in commercial vehicles”.
Sentury Tire has produced the first Landsail-branded aircraft tyres. The new tyre can be fitted on Boeing 737-600, 737-700, 737-800 and 737-900 models that have a maximum take-off speed of 362km/h.
