New TyreSafe app offers tyre safety tips
TyreSafe has introduced a new mobile app to provide motorists with a range of practical tyre safety tips and advice while on the go. The Tyre Safety Companion, available free in Apple’s iTunes and Google’s Play stores, gives a number of handy hints, practical advice and reminders regarding tyre safety and maintenance. Issues covered by the app include what to do what to do at the roadside in the event of a puncture, how to check tyre pressure, and much more.
“October’s tyre safety month is coming to an end, but our new app ensures drivers can easily access a wealth of tyre related information, no matter what time of the year it is,” comments TyreSafe chairman Stuart Jackson. “Answers to some of the most common questions we’re asked by drivers are now available within this app. Furthermore, you’ll also be able to locate your nearest TyreSafe member who will be able to provide you with even more assistance and we’ll even send you timely reminders designed to help prolong the life of your tyres and maximise your safety on the road.”
The Tyre Safety Companion was designed as part of TyreSafe’s ongoing efforts to reduce the number of tyre related casualties which occur on UK roads. In a recent survey carried out by the organisation, 19 per cent of drivers admitted they’d never checked the tread depth of their tyres. TyreSafe notes that drivers who fail to carry out regular tyre safety checks risk fines of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre, and also compromise their own safety and that of others. Indeed, in 2013, nearly 1,000 road casualties resulted from driving on illegal, defective or under-inflated tyres.
