Pirelli expands Carlisle warehouse
Pirelli has opened an expanded warehouse facility at its Carlisle factory. The move is part of a continued commitment by the company to make significant investment at the Dalston Road site.
The new 4,000 square metre extension, built onto an existing unit, will provide much needed additional storage space for the premium SUV tyres that are manufactured there. A further 2,200 square metre extension, which will house new production equipment and a research and development facility, is scheduled to be complete early next year.
Michelle Taylor, logistics and purchasing director for Pirelli UK, said: “We’re delighted to see the completion of this extension to our warehouse. It’s important for the factory to increase its storage capacity on-site as we are producing increasing quantities of premium SUV tyres.”
Pirelli Carlisle was opened in 1969, and since then it has steadily grown to become one of the company’s key manufacturing hubs. More than 750 staff are employed at the factory, making it one of the biggest employers in the region.
