NFDA comments on August car sales increase

Following the SMMT’s publication of new car registration figures for August 2014, the National Franchised Dealers Association has predicted that September, and the newly introduced 64-plate, will bring further increases.

“It is positive and encouraging to see that the new car market continued to thrive during August in what is traditionally a low volume month for car sales” said Sue Robinson, director of NFDA, which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers across the UK, commenting on the SMMT’s new car registration figures.

New car sales figures, released today, show were up 9.4 per cent compared to August last year. This month also marks the 30th consecutive month of growth in the new car market.

Robinson continued: “August is traditionally a small market as buyers wait for the plate change on 1 September before purchasing a new vehicle. Therefore, after such a positive increase in sales during August, we anticipate that sales of the new 64-plate to do very well.”
