Bridgestone China opens new Shenyang tyre factory
Bridgestone China, officially opened its latest truck and bus radial tyre plant in Shenyang, China on 24 September. The opening comes a year after Bridgestone said it would triple investment in the site from US$99 million to nearly $300 million.
Kazuhisa Nishigai, COO and Representative Board Member of Bridgestone Corporation, who was present to officiate, commented: “China is one of Bridgestone’s key markets, with a huge demand for TBR tyres. We aim to develop our Shenyang plant into one of Bridgestone’s key plants, to contribute to the growth of the local market and customers’ needs.”
Bridgestone reportedly plans to build on the plant’s track record and improve its production structure, while continuing to manufacture tyres. Furthermore Bridgestone Group aims to “enhance the organization’s speed-to-market, to more rapidly meet consumer demand for its products.”
The Shenyang plant was originally constructed in 1999 and was Bridgestone Group’s first tyre manufacturing plant in China. According to the company, the plant is ISO9002 and ISO14001 certified, with products meeting international standards for quality assurance and environmental management system.
Bridgestone (Shenyang) Tire Co., Ltd., as it is formally known is 100 per cent owned (including indirect holdings) by the Bridgestone Corporation. The new plant covers an area of 395,000 square metres. The factory employs 325 employees (as of August 31, 2014) and manufactures approximately 5,000 tyres per day.
