All-electric MOTIV.e unveiled
Professor Gordon Murray today teamed up with Innovate UK chief executive Iain Gray CBE to reveal Yamaha’s “Formula One inspired” MOTIV.e car to UK audiences at LCV ’14.
The all-electric car, first unveiled to the world at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show, emerged from its covers on Wednesday 10 September on the Innovate UK stand at the CENEX event held at Millbrook.
Yamaha Motor Company chose Gordon Murray Design to work in partnership with the design and development of MOTIV.e which utilises Gordon Murray Design’s revolutionary iStream manufacturing technology – iStream incorporates Formula One composite technology and delivers new levels of lightweight, safety, vehicle dynamics and manufacturing flexibility alongside low environmental impact.
Innovate UK, the new name for the Technology Strategy Board, first invested in MOTIV.e’s underlying iStream and related technology in 2011 which formed part of a £9 million investment from its predecessor the T.27.
Innovate UK is a major exhibitor at LCV ’14 (as in previous years), demonstrating how its Low Carbon Vehicles Innovation Platform continues to work with government and industry to identify the best areas in the sector that need support. A key feature of Innovate UK’s presence this year will demonstrating how some of its supported innovations by SMEs have made it all the way through the R&D programme and are now featuring in vehicles on our roads today.
