Continental initiates voluntary motorcycle tyre exchange
Approximately 170,000 Continental brand motorcycle tyres are covered by a voluntary tyre exchange programme that Continental has introduced after receiving market feedback about a number of size 120/70 ZR 17 and 120/70 R 17 tyres; these tyres, explains Continental, have exhibited a condition in the tread and/or belt which may lead to separation and possible air loss. The tyre maker says only a very small number of incidents have been reported and it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries in connection with this condition. It adds that the exchange programme is being initiated to avoid any potential risk to road-users.
The affected tyres were sold to original equipment and replacement customers worldwide between 2007 and 2014.

Whereby the last four digits of the DOT serial numbers indicate the production period (week/year). Tyres between 1907 (19th week of 2007) and 2614 (26thweek of 2014) are covered by this voluntary exchange programme. No other tire sizes, production periods or product lines are affected. Continental says it started to notify the respective national authorities on 8 August 2014 and is in contact with its motorcycle tyre customers from the respective sales channels to organise and implement the voluntary exchange programme.
