Pirelli joins Michelin and Dunlop as a MotoGP suitor

It has now been sole tyre supplier to the World Superbike championship for more than ten years and is also partner to national championships, including British Superbike. But is Pirelli looking to further extend its two-wheel motorsport participation? Bikesportnews.com says it is. Matteo Giusti, the tyre maker’s racing and product communication manager, told BSN that Pirelli is currently discussing its “next steps regarding the possibility to make an offer for MotoGP.” He added that Michelin and Dunlop have also expressed interest in supplying the championship, however at present nothing has been decided.

“We are making our evaluations even because we are already involved in Formula 1 as well as in WSBK as sole suppliers,” Guisti told BSN.

Bridgestone announced on 1 May that it will end its MotoGP tyre supply after the 2015 season. Explaining the company’s decision to end this arrangement, Kyota Futami, general manager of Bridgestone’s global motorsport department, said Bridgestone had “achieved everything we set out to do when we entered the championship over ten years ago.”
