ETRMA: Tyre sales show double digit growth in 1Q 2014
The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) has welcomed first quarter 2014 figures compile from members’ sales and showing the years has got off to a good start. However, we also have to remember that the comparison with the same period 2013 is putting the figures against a low base.
Nevertheless ETRMA members reported double digit growth almost in all tyre segments. This first quarter saw the consumer segment growing by 10 per cent and the truck and bus sector by 16 per cent compared with the same time last year.

When looking at the national results for these two segments, almost all countries showed an increase, which was particularly high for the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), which boosted total European sales. Agricultural tyres showed a 7 per cent growth and motorcycle and scooter tyres grew by 12 per cent.
Fazilet Cinaralp, secretary general of ETRMA commented: “A good start is half the battle and we can expect also in the coming months a positive development of the market, with a growth between 3 to 4 per cent at the end of the year, compared to 2013”.
The latest figures join a number of indicators pointing to positive growth and indeed a “pumping up” of the market, something Tyres & Accessories reported last month.
