Fort Dunlop to cease motorsport tyre production in September

Dunlop Motorsport has confirmed it will close its Fort Dunlop tyre production factory in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham. The news follows the announcement last May that the company’s lease would not be renewed and that site was being sold to Jaguar Land Rover. Goodyear Dunlop representatives told Tyres & Accessories that the firm remains committed to the production of motorsport tyres and is still in talks with Birmingham City Council with regards to the possibility of finding another suitable site in the region.

Back in May it appeared that Dunlop’s time at the Fort Dunlop was going to end earlier than September. However, T&A understands that the tyre manufacturer was able to extend its lease for another three months. With talks relating to the future of the manufacturing operation in the region still underway, Dunlop’s management team now have to assess the options in front of them before the lease is up in roughly eight months’ time.

In any case tyre production on the site will continue with the operations of separate business Dunlop Aircraft Tyres still ongoing.
