Continental gains Golf, Beetle, CC approvals from VW

Volkswagen has approved Continental summer tyres for original equipment fitment on three of its models – 15 and 16-inch versions of the ContiEcoContact 5 and ContiPremiumContact 5 will be fitted to the Golf 7, the CC receives a 17-inch rim diameter version of the ContiSportContact 5 and ContiEcoContact 5, while the Beetle will be fitted with the 20-inch ContiSportContact 5.

Each of these tyre ranges has a particular focus – low fuel consumption, comfortable driving, or sporty handling. Volkswagen therefore had the opportunity to select the correct original equipment fitment to match the vehicle model. For the CC, Volkswagen opted for tyres utilising the ContiSeal puncture technology.

“Volkswagen chose our tyres because we satisfy the Wolfsburg-based company’s high expectations and performance specification with our premium products,” commented Jörg Göner, manager Automotive Engineering for Continental’s Volkswagen group. “In addition, we have the ContiEcoContact 5 in our range – a tyre with very low rolling resistance and very good driving properties even on wet roads – for example for the Golf 7 Blue Motion. By the same token, with the ContiSportContact 5, we can offer a handling-based tyre that brings the agile properties of the Beetle safely onto the asphalt.”

Continental manufactures tyres for Volkswagen in its European factories and, for the Mexican-produced Beetle, at its Mount Vernon plant in the US.
