Mercedes-Benz promotes cold weather tyres

With the nights closing in and winter well on its way, Mercedes-Benz Retailers are helping customers to prepare for the changing road conditions in the months ahead by stocking Cold Weather Tyres.

Mercedes-Benz points out that Cold Weather Tyres are effective as soon as the temperature falls below seven degrees Celsius, not just when there is snow on the ground. The company’s press release explains that these tyres are developed with higher levels of natural rubber compound, which remain supple at low temperatures, the tyres provide much better grip and handling on wet, icy and snow-covered roads. The wide grooves also provide extra grip when accelerating and braking, reducing the chances of skidding.

Mercedes-Benz goes  on: “Fitting Cold Weather Tyres improves braking distances by up to 50 per cent on snow-covered roads and by four metres on wet and cold roads.  They are also 20 per cent more durable than standard warm weather tyres at low temperatures.
