Goodyear blimps take text-driving message to the air
Despite the dangers involved, texting while driving is perfectly legal in at least ten US states. Yet the practice has many opponents, including Goodyear Tire & Rubber, who today is sending out the blimps to spread an anti- texting and driving message. The messages carried by the three Goodyear blimps today promote ‘It Can Wait’, a US-wide education and awareness campaign encouraging drivers never to text while behind the wheel.
“Goodyear is joining the pledge campaign to increase attention around the significant risks associated with texting while driving,” said Paul Fitzhenry, Goodyear’s senior vice-president, global communications. “It Can Wait” conveys a simple but powerful message and aligns with Goodyear’s priority to promote safety on our roads through programmes that increase safety awareness and encourage safe behaviours.”
Since its inception in August 2012, more than 2.5 million people have taken the It Can Wait pledge and declared they will never text and drive. Goodyear says its US safety policy has prohibited texting while driving in company-owned vehicles since 2010.
