Cooper to supply Indy Lights Series
Cooper Tire has replaced Firestone as the official tyre supplier to the US-based Indy Lights Series from 2014, making Cooper the official tyre of the entire Mazda Road to Indy ladder. The agreement will initially run for five years, with an option to extend beyond the end of the 2018 season.
It is an exciting time for Cooper to be joining the Indy Lights Series, as the series organisers recently announced an updated car for the 2014 season, with a brand new car to be introduced at the start of the 2015 season. Testing began in September and Cooper believes the new tyre, coupled with chassis updates, is set to offer greater parity amongst competitors from next year.
“It’s fantastic that Cooper has further expanded its motorsport portfolio from 2014, particularly in a market as key as the United States,” commented Sarah McRoberts, marketing communications manager, Cooper Tire Europe. “It’s particularly special as we’re already official tyre supplier to the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda and the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, so to add the final rung to our portfolio is fantastic, as we really form part of a driver’s career path, assisting with their development.”
